Mazda hasrecently announced what it calls the Takeri concept which is a sculpted,mid-sized sedan that just happens to contain the first capacitor-basedregenerative braking system! The company’s new “i-ELOOP” (Intelligent Energy Loop)regenerative braking system is part of the Mazda’s SkyActive suite oftechnologies that help increase efficiency. The “i-ELOOP” converts kineticenergy into electrical energy and stores it in capacitors for quick charge anddischarge to power the vehicle’s electrical components. The automaker claimsthe system reduces fuel consumption by as much as 10%. Takeri also features alightweight structure, aerodynamic body, and new chassis technologies toimprove fuel economy, performance and ride comfort. Mazda has stated that the“i-ELOOP” system will start to appear in vehicles by 2012.
